Launch of Women in Bus and Coach Wales

Women in Bus and Coach Wales Launches to Drive Change Across the Sector

Transport professionals from across Wales came together recently to celebrate the official launch of the Women in Bus and Coach (WiBC) Wales regional network, marking an important step forward in creating a more inclusive, diverse and representative transport sector.

Hosted in Cardiff, the launch event brought together women working across bus, coach and community transport, alongside industry partners and supporters who share a commitment to improving opportunities for women throughout the sector.

The newly established Wales network aims to provide a platform for connection, collaboration and support, helping to amplify the voices of women working across all areas of transport. From frontline operations and engineering to management, leadership and community transport, the network will focus on sharing experiences, tackling barriers and inspiring the next generation of transport professionals.

The event highlighted both the challenges and opportunities facing the industry, including recruitment, retention, decarbonisation and the need to build a workforce that better reflects the communities it serves.

As a founding member of the Wales steering group, AAT Taith Co-op’s Community Transport Development Officer, Sachá Petrie, joined colleagues from across the sector to help shape the future direction of the network.

“Community transport plays a vital role in connecting people to healthcare, education, employment and social opportunities, particularly in rural communities. It is important that women working within our sector have opportunities to connect, share knowledge and support one another as we work together to strengthen transport across Wales.”

The launch is just the beginning for Women in Bus and Coach Wales, with plans already underway for future networking events, mentoring opportunities and collaborative projects that will support women at every stage of their careers.

By bringing people together, sharing experiences and championing positive change, the Wales network will help ensure that the transport sector remains innovative, inclusive and fit for the future.
