- Hours: Full time post 37.5 hours per week (flexible rota to suit needs of centre)
- Contract Term: 3-year duration with potential for extension subject to review.
- Holiday Entitlement: 25 days leave per annum plus bank holidays for full-time working,
- Ethical Pension scheme with a 6.5% salary contribution being matched by AAT.

Who we are:
Awel Aman Tawe is a charity based in the upper Amman Valley and founded in 1998 with the joint objectives of addressing the climate emergency and supporting community resilience. We have developed the two largest renewable energy co-ops in Wales: Awel Co-op (our wind co-op) and Egni Co-op (our solar co-op). We also run a variety of projects including Energy Warriors schools’ education programme, sustainable community transport, energy efficiency advice and community arts. We bought the former primary school in Cwmgors in 2018 and are currently re-developing it into a new low-carbon arts, education and enterprise centre: Hwb y Gors. We anticipate the centre opening in early 2025 and this position of Arts & Education Programme Officer will play a key role in developing our vision for the venue.
Position Summary
Working with our Creative Director, our Education Outreach Programme Lead and our Centre Manager, you will develop and manage an arts and education programme that reflects the joint objectives of addressing the climate/biodiversity emergencies and community resilience. This programme will include a comprehensive programme of arts and education provision targeting all ages and abilities.
You will have a deep understanding and passion for the launch, development and growth of Hwb y Gors, bringing energy and enthusiasm to the role. You will have the experience and drive needed for delivering an arts and education programme to a variety of participants. Your programme of workshops, courses, events and activities will reflect the need for addressing the climate and biodiversity emergencies as well as the need for community resilience. You will work closely with the Hwb y Gors Centre Manager to realise the ambition for the centre to be self-sustaining within 3 years, and to be Net Zero by 2030.
Roles and Responsibilities
The role will be to;
- Work with the Centre Manager to develop and annually review the Business plan with particular attention to the arts and education programme.
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the organisation’s client groups, services and ethos; and build and maintain good relations within the community, centre users, tenants and volunteers
- Develop and maintain links with schools, colleges, education providers as well as networks of artists and creatives to ensure the programme is delivering high quality activities and taking up opportunities where relevant.
- Actively promote the arts and education programme.
- Co-ordinate community and professional events at the Centre within budget and you will ensure that project plans reflect changing public demand
- Set annual target for attendance across the programme and monitor and evaluate all arts and education activities within the Centre with the aim to ensure a sustainable programme within a 3-year period. You will also seek external funding for the provision of the arts and education programme
- Deputise for Centre Manager when required, particularly over holiday and sickness periods
- Ensure high quality in the presentation of all activities within the Centre
- Take a lead role in the launch of Hwb y Gors
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion
- Be flexible to working varied working hours – weekends, unsocial and out of hours to meet the needs of the Centre
- Be a keyholder for the centre
- Undertake any other task which the board of trustees may reasonably request
