It’s been a whirlwind these last few months preparing for this space mission, so it felt good to finally pack everything into boxes and head for the Mission HQ: Pontardawe Arts Centre, for the start of the construction of the space capsule.
Due to limited funding we were unable to get a team of specialist astro-engineers to design our sustainable space capsule, so it was down to me and the cat.
These are the technical specifications here in case anyone else is planning to build a capsule 🙂
Sunday was the first day of construction, and I had a great team of helpers to get the structural base up. Thank you Dan, Chris and Johanna. All went well, in spite of a few wibbly wobbly moments when the willow buckled under the pressure. But we fixed it and now have a beautiful basket base. Reminds me of that old nursery rhyme about the old woman going up to the moon in a basket (see below).
Nursery Rhyme (anon) There was an old woman tossed up in a basket Nineteen times as high as the moon. And where she was going I couldn’t but ask it For in her hand she carried a broom.’ Old woman! old woman!! old woman!!!’ quoth I. ‘Oh whither Oh whither Oh whither, so high.’ ‘To sweep the cobwebs off the sky.’ ‘And I’ll be with you again by and bye.’ |
