Paul Thorburn, former Wales rugby captain, helped Awel Co-op celebrate breaking the £1m milestone in their Share Offer by recreating his famous Monster kick.

Peter Charles from Llanelli, echoed the words of Max Boyce “I was there – at the Scotland game in 1986 when he kicked the longest penalty in history. And thirty years later, I was there on Mynydd y Gwrhyd as an Awel member. He cleared our turbine base by a mile. He’s a legend.”

Fay Rees from Gwaun Cae Gurwen said “It was a pleasure to meet Paul. He was great fun. He signed the ball which was provided by Cwmtawe School. A real memento for them.”

Clive and Cynthia Phillips from Cwmllynfell said “It was wonderful to see the site and all the work that has been done by our civils contractors, Raymond Brown Construction. And it was a great kick!”
